New Legislation Requiring Father's Consent Before Abortion: "Missouri State Representative Rick Brattin has introduced legislation that would require a woman to get notarized consent from the baby’s father before obtaining an abortion. The bill allows exemptions for cases of incest or rape, but “just like any rape, you have to report it, and you have to prove it.”
The bill was introduced on December 3rd, but will not see the floor until the beginning of the next session. Brattin was encouraged to draft the bill after being forced to obtain his wife’s consent to have a vasectomy. If the bill passes the legislature and is signed into law, it could be killed by the courts. The Supreme Court ruled in Casey v.
